Tim Haughinberry

Back Bar USA
Founder & Chief Creative Officer
Throughout his career, Tim Haughinberry has created his own professional opportunities through a passion for entrepreneurism and love of beer, wine, and spirits. As the current chief creative officer of Back Bar USA, he brings a wealth of experience to the beverage industry, acting as the lead creative mind behind a variety of Back Bar’s activations, marketing initiatives and events throughout the year.

A native of Southern California, Haughinberry moved to Las Vegas in 1987 to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and started his career in hospitality as a busboy at The Mirage Hotel and Casino in 1989. Throughout his time at UNLV, Haughinberry held a variety of management roles in restaurants and bars before landing at Southern Wine and Spirits where he became the youngest manager in the company’s history. Haughinberry attributes his interest in the marketing, education and distribution of wine, spirits and cigars to his time at Southern Wine and Spirits; he further capitalized on his interest when he transitioned to Consolidated Cigar Corporation (now Altadis USA Premium Cigars) as the Vice President of On-Premise Distribution.

Haughinberry’s first entrepreneurial venture began in 2000 when he founded the internationally-recognized Montecristo Rum brand in Las Vegas. Known for having been the first all-natural rum with no artificial flavors or colors, Montecristo became wildly popular, receiving awards at several spirits competitions including gold and double gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Many industry leaders valued the unique, all-natural concept behind Montecristo Rum, often referring to Haughinberry as a trailblazer in the industry in publications like Food and Wine Magazine and Town and Country Magazine.

Haughinberry continued to expand his professional reach in the industry when he bought Henderson’s oldest bar, The Goldmine Tavern, in 2006, which celebrated 50 years of business in 2016. Soon after the purchase, Haughinberry acquired his Nevada gaming and liquor licenses and began focusing on creative marketing to promote the venue. In the following years, Haughinberry has redefined The Goldmine Tavern’s brand by modernizing the interior, bringing in live local music and expanding the patio area – an initiative that has made The Goldmine Tavern a key player in the redevelopment of Downtown Henderson. Due to his unrelenting efforts, The Goldmine Tavern has seen remarkable success and now appeals to a more diverse array of clientele from millennials to members of the biker community and baby boomers.
Soon after, Haughinberry began to recognize even more opportunity for an innovative spirits entrepreneur to capitalize on Nevada’s growing casino industry. In 2008, Haughinberry founded his own marketing agency, Back Bar USA, which uniquely caters to all major casino corporations in Las Vegas including MGM Resorts International, Landry’s Inc., Caesars Entertainment, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and TAO Group. Additionally, Back Bar USA has worked with major beverage suppliers including Diageo North America, Beam Suntory, Brown Forman, Moët Hennessy, Bacardi USA, Heineken USA, Pernod Ricard USA, MillerCoors, Chateau St. Michelle Wine Estates, Constellation Brands, Red Bull, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo.
Haughinberry attributes his success to a few key qualities including loyalty, integrity and expertise in the marketplace. He is ambitious and shows no signs of losing momentum as he continues to open new venues and lead hugely successful events with Back Bar USA including “For The Love Of Cocktails,” which brought internationally-renowned mixologists from around the world to Las Vegas for a comprehensive cocktail festival.

Beyond his professional success, Haughinberry uses his position as a business leader in the Las Vegas Valley to contribute to a variety of philanthropic causes. He serves on the Board of Directors for Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN), contributing both his personal and professional time to the cause. Each year, Back Bar USA provides liquor sponsors to AFAN’s “Black and White Party,” which raised $130,000 in 2015.
Furthermore, Haughinberry provides support to his alma mater, UNLV, by offering job opportunities within Back Bar USA to driven graduates, as well as a scholarship that was founded in 2014. The Back Bar USA scholarship offers $15,000 each year to students in UNLV’s Honors College studying in the field of hospitality. To further support the future of hospitality, a portion of the proceeds from the “Las Vegas Beer & Barrel Project” is donated to the Epicurean Charitable Foundation, which also provides scholarships to hospitality students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Haughinberry is a proud member of the LGBT community. When he is not working, Haughinberry enjoys traveling and spending time with his dogs.
